HOURS OF WORK:                   Monday to Thursday Dayshift or Tuesday to Friday Dayshift; hours may vary based on operational requirements (extended shifts)

COMPETITION END DATE:      Thursday, June 4, 2026 

 

 

The Financial Crime Unit (FCU) investigates complex financial crimes including fraud, forgery, money laundering, cyber-enabled crime, and related Criminal Code and regulatory offences. Members assigned to the FCU conduct in-depth investigations, coordinate with internal and external partners, and contribute to the disruption and prosecution of sophisticated criminal enterprises. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES 

  • Investigates complex financial, economic, and cyber-enabled crimes under the Criminal Code and related statutes 
  • Conducts detailed investigative analysis including financial records, digital evidence, and transactional data 
  • Prepares search warrants, production orders, arrest reports, and Crown briefs 
  • Consults with Crown Counsel, regulatory bodies, financial institutions, and partner law enforcement agencies 
  • Conducts suspects, victim, and witness interviews 
  • Participates in surveillance, arrests, and other enforcement actions as required 
  • Provides expert testimony in court related to financial crime investigations 
  • Maintains accurate investigative records and complies with disclosure obligations 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

  • Strong investigative and analytical skills with attention to detail 
  • Knowledge of financial crime investigative techniques and relevant legislation 
  • Ability to analyze complex financial, transactional, and documentary evidence 
  • Effective written and oral communication skills 
  • Ability to manage lengthy, complex investigations and competing priorities 
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a specialized investigative unit 
  • Strong proficiency in report writing and disclosure preparation 

 

 

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

 

A retired officer applicant must satisfy the basic requirements to apply for a temporary experienced contract police officer position:

  • Eligible to retire, recently retired, or a serving Canadian police officer within the last three years
  • Police recruit training provided by any of the following Canadian police training academies:
    • RCMP Training Academy (Depot); Ontario Police College
    • Chief Crowfoot Learning Centre (Calgary Police Service)
    • Edmonton Police Service, Basic Recruit Training
    • Lethbridge College
    • Winnipeg Police Service, Police Recruit Training Academy
    • Royal Newfoundland Constabulary
    • Saskatchewan Police College
    • École Nationale de Police du Québec
    • Atlantic Police Academy
    • Canadian Forces Military Police Academy or Justice Institute of British Columbia
  • Must not be the subject of any current Police Act allegations, Professional Standards investigations, Independent Investigations Office complaints or equivalent disciplinary processes in other provinces
  • Deployable to work patrol
  • Pass a medical exam to confirm fit for duty
  • Possess a valid CPR-C certification
  • Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s licence
  • Able to pass all elements of the on-boarding process, which includes, but not limited to, VPD use-of-force qualifications.

 

TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS 

Required: 

  • Demonstrated investigative experience 
  • Qualified in all use of force

Preferred / Position Specific: 

  • Experience investigating financial, fraud, or economic crimes 
  • Knowledge of banking systems, financial instruments, and money laundering methods 
  • Judicial Authorization Course
  • Interviewing Course
  • Major Crime Investigator Training
  • Forensic Accounting course
